BAPTIST MISSION FOCUS
Comber Baptist church (CBC) is committed to
a mission outreach and it may be summarised under two main groups: local
initiatives and supporting traditional mission work i.e. those sent by
recognised missionary agencies.
initiatives: the church is engaged in a number of
outreach activities. As it sits in the community it sees great opportunities to
engage with the community through – Make “n” Do craft group; Bumble tots;
Silver threads; Newtownards food bank and other literature distributions at
Christmas and Easter. We also jointly work with some churches in town to share
the gospel message. We believe we should be open and accessible and hence these
activities BUT of course, our big focus is on our Sunday services which present
“the gospel” and a teaching ministry.
Mission focus: as a member of the Association of
Baptist Churches, we have a duty to support Baptist Missions working in Spain,
Ireland and Peru. We have “adopted” two of these families – one in Spain and
one in Ireland. Each month, during a missions focus slot in our Sunday service,
we give updates on their work, family life and other particular challenges and
good news items. These updates give the members and adherents information for
prayer and the link is an opportunity really welcomed by the current families
included in this prayer diary.
In addition to Baptist Missions, we support
three families who work for C.E.F. Again, we mention them by name and pray for
their work. This contact and regular update is an encouraging time for the
families AND is a duty we must undertake and have committed to as a church
From time to time we have mission speaker
representing a variety of mission societies and this too gives us first-hand
knowledge of how God is working in various parts of the world and is a great
encouragement to those who hear. We attend the annual World-wide Missionary Convention
in Bangor, County Down and this gives a broad exposure to activities with the
challenges and blessings.
As circumstances require, we hear of
missionaries who are ill and need special prayer and we happily pray for them
or indeed, any other brothers and sisters who live in difficult places.
In all these things we believe we are
supporting the great commission of “..go into all the world and preach the
